Anyone can join!
Whether you play an instrument privately, are currently in a band at school, or have never played before, an exciting opportunity awaits you when you join the Campbell High Band program. There are numerous performance opportunities for all bands both at school and in the wider community ranging from Arts Fest and Open Night at school to Floriade, Merrimbula Jazz Festival and Australian National Eisteddfod.
Part of the elective program NOT instead of it!
Band is run online at school as part of the elective program. Students who join in Year 7 can still expect to get a taste of the normal elective units that other students are doing so they won't miss out. This is achieved by running special sessions for the band as a separate class throughout the year.
The band consists of a variety of instruments ranging from trumpets to bass guitar. Students are selected for instruments through a process of audition, balanced needs of the band and student's personal interests and experience. This provides opportunities for students who have previously played an instrument at primary school to try a different instrument and develop flexibility and wider musical knowledge.
The instruments available for hire from the school are flute, clarinet, alto and tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone and bass and electric guitars. The hire fee is $220 per year and helps offset the cost of service and repairs to the school's instrument stock as well as subsidising the cost to the school of hiring supplementary instruments from outside commercial organisations (currently ranging from $220–$410 per year).
The school uses a private tutoring program using professional working musicians and the current cost is $37 for individual weekly half hour lessons.
Students without or little prior experience in the allocated instrument are expected to participate in the private tuition program. (Parents may wish to engage a private tutor after school if they prefer). Experienced or advanced students must negotiate with the band teacher their lesson commitment and demonstrate their skill level prior to being accepted if not participating in the lesson program.
The band performs for various functions and occasions. Camps and tours are also considered and planned within each year as appropriate.
Students interested in being involved in the band need to fill out the Band Student Profile Sheet. For further information about our band program please contact Mr Owen Cusick or Ms Kylie Brown.
