Music and Band Program

Music and Band Program

Anyone can join!

Whether you play an instrument privately, are currently in a band at school, or have never played before, an exciting opportunity awaits you when you join the Campbell High Band program. There are numerous performance opportunities for all bands both at school and in the wider community ranging from Arts Fest and Open Night at school to Floriade, Merrimbula Jazz Festival and Australian National Eisteddfod.

Band is part of the elective program. Students who join in Year 7 can still expect to get a taste of the normal elective units that other students are doing so they won't miss out. This is achieved by running special sessions for the band as a separate class throughout the year.

Instrument availability

The band consists of a variety of instruments ranging from trumpets to bass guitar. Students are selected for instruments through a process of audition, balanced needs of the band and student's personal interests and experience. This provides opportunities for students who have previously played an instrument at primary school to try a different instrument and develop flexibility and wider musical knowledge.

The school uses a private tutoring program using professional working musicians for a small cost to families.

Learning commitment

Students without or little prior experience in the allocated instrument are expected to participate in the private tuition program. (Parents may wish to engage a private tutor after school if they prefer). Experienced or advanced students must negotiate with the band teacher their lesson commitment and demonstrate their skill level prior to being accepted if not participating in the lesson program.

Performance

The band performs for various functions and occasions. Camps and tours are also considered and planned within each year as appropriate.
